Principles of Design
Principles of design
1. Proximity: it's about using visual space to show relationships in one's content. It is also the grouping of related elements to create a clear relationship.
2. White Space: is the area of a design that do not include any design elements. It's also called negative space, the spaces between the content, the lines and the outer margins.
3. Alignment: Placement of elements to create a clear and organized composition. Being consistent.
4. Contrast: refers to how different element are in a design. Use of different elements to create visual interest and distinction e.g lighter color on a darker color.
5. Balance: Visual equilibrium through arrangement of elements. All design elements and principles carry a visual weight.
6. Emphasis: deals with the part of a design that is meant to stand out. It is the focal point that draws attention to a specific element.
7. Proportion: Harmonious relationship between elements in terms of size and scale. The size of elements in relations to one another.
8. Unity: Visual coherence through consistent use of elements. It is how well the elements of a design work together.
9. Variety: Use of different elements to create visual interest.
10. Rhythm: the spaces between repeating elements can cause a sense of rhythm to form.
11. Repetition: repeating the same color, typefaces, shapes and other elements of a design.
